Paper servers, plugins in one click

Paper is Minecraft with plugins: it runs faster than vanilla and fixes a few of its glitches, like TNT duping. Every Hostavern server starts on Paper, so there’s nothing to switch. Pick a size, pay, and add plugins from your server’s page.

What you get

All of it comes with every plan, from the smallest up. Nothing to install by hand, nothing extra to pay.

  • Plugins from Modrinth

    Search Modrinth from your server's Mods & Plugins page and install in one click, or tick up to 10 and install them together with one restart. Whatever a plugin needs comes with it.

  • A backup before every change

    Each install, update or removal takes a backup first, so any of them can be undone. Daily backups are kept 7 days on top.

  • Your version stays put

    The first plugin pins the server's Minecraft version, so a new release can't break what's installed. You move up when your plugins are ready, from Settings.

  • Tick rate and pings, in game

    Our own plugin comes with every Paper server: players type /stats for the tick rate and everyone's ping, and the dashboard shows the same numbers. Ops get /spark, which Paper has built in.

  • A server list that looks like yours

    Set the picture and a two-line message with colours, any hex, gradients and rainbows. On Paper both change without a restart.

  • Mods for players, packed for them

    Plugins with a mod for players' games, like a map or voice chat, go into a player pack: one file friends open in the Modrinth App, Prism or the CurseForge App, with your server already in their list.

From paying to playing

  1. Pick a size and pay. No account needed first; it's made from the email you pay with.
  2. Your server is up about a minute later, on Paper and the newest Minecraft.
  3. Open Mods & Plugins, search, and install. The server takes a backup, adds the plugin and restarts.
  4. Send friends the address. It's a name, like mossy-otter-42.hostavern.com, so there's no port to type.

Which size?

One block for every GB of memory. Here’s what some typical servers need, from the same rule as how much RAM you need. Move up or down a size any time; the world comes with you.

Good to know

  • Paper runs plugins, not mods. For Fabric, Forge or NeoForge mods, switch the server's software from Mods & Plugins; it moves the Paper world aside rather than deleting it, since Paper's worlds don't open on the others on current Minecraft.
  • A plugin you have as a .jar file, up to 4 MB, can go into the plugins folder from Files.
  • One server can keep several Worlds, each with its own software and plugins, and switch between them in a minute.
