Forge hosting, from $5 a month
Forge servers, for the biggest family of mods
Forge is the oldest and biggest family of Minecraft mods, and where most mods for older versions live. Every server starts on Paper; switch it to Forge from Mods & Plugins in one click, then add Forge mods from Modrinth. Your friends get the same mods in one file.
What you get
All of it comes with every plan, from the smallest up. Nothing to install by hand, nothing extra to pay.
Forge mods from Modrinth
Search and install from the server's page, or tick up to 10 and install them with one restart. What each mod needs comes along, and each file is checked against Modrinth's own hash.
The recommended Forge, the right Java
The server installs the Forge version recommended for its Minecraft, and runs the Java that version needs, from Java 8 for 1.16 and older to the newest.
A Forge player pack for friends
The player side of your mods, on Forge at your server's version, in one .mrpack file that opens in the Modrinth App, Prism or the CurseForge App, with the server already in the list.
Client-only mods, caught
A mod made only for players' games stops a Forge server with "invalid dist DEDICATED_SERVER". The dashboard names the mod and offers to take it off.
Tick rate and spark
The dashboard shows the tick rate, from /tick query or Forge's own /forge tps on older versions, and ops get /spark, installed at start, to find what's lagging.
A backup before every change
Installs, updates and removals each take a backup first, and the first mod pins the Minecraft version, so an update can't break what you've added.
From paying to playing
- Pick a size and pay. The server is up about a minute later.
- On Mods & Plugins, switch the software to Forge, and pick the Minecraft version your mods are made for from Settings. The Paper world is moved aside, not deleted.
- Search Modrinth and install your Forge mods. The server backs up, adds them and what they need, and restarts.
- Send friends the player pack from the Overview, and the address.
Which size?
One block for every GB of memory. Here’s what some typical servers need, from the same rule as how much RAM you need. Move up or down a size any time; the world comes with you.
Good to know
- Forge is heavier than Fabric and slower to start; a big mod list can take a few minutes on its first start.
- On current Minecraft most big mods have moved to NeoForge. If your mods list NeoForge, run that instead.
- Mods' own code takes about 5 MB each from the plan; the server's Plan page shows what its mods need against its size and warns when it's tight.
- Playing a ready-made Forge pack? Install it as a modpack instead, and it brings its own Forge and version.
